Activated Granulated Carbon – Smugglers 2.9 kg

Activated Granulated Carbon, used to remove the fusel oils, unwanted flavours and unpleasant odours from the spirit.
Also known as Gold carbon. ( medium grade  )
Used as a 5 day soaking method , add 10 gms carbon per litre.
At the end of 5 days you need to run the spirit through filter wool or filter pads to remove the black colour from the spirit.

The longer the soaking time the better 3 weeks would be preferred

The higher the percentage of the spirit at the collect the less the carbon has to work

i.e. : if you collect spirit at say 70% the carbon will working overtime.

Most stills today are producing around 90%.

If you do not use carbon to purify the alcohol.

There is a likely chance of ending up with headaches and some form of sickness.

Think of the carbon as a magnate.

The fusel oil is attracted and held by the carbon.

Other carbons for alcohol:

Activated cartridge Carbon. used in filter cartridge systems.

Granulated or Gold carbon, used for 5 day soaking method.

Use 10 grams per litre of alcohol soak in a separate container, preferably not plastic.

Contact Reactive carbon , which is a fine and medium mix, suitable for the 3 day soaking method.

The longer the soak the better, 3 weeks would be preferred.
